He married in Amelia and was known to have been a house joiuner and to have built St. Andrew's church near current Jarratt, Virginia. In 1757 he sold some of his lands in Amelia County, abandoned the remainder and moved to Savannah, Georgia where he bought a lot in town. He petitioned the Georgia governor for and obtained lands along Rocky Creek in current Augusta, Georgia and moved in 1768 from Savanah to lot 19 in Augusta. He died shortly thereafter. His widow and sons continued to live on in Augusta until the revolutionary war, at which time their town home in Augusta was destroyed and James' gravesite obliterated during the construction of the British fortifications at Augusta. After the war the wdow and children sold their estate along Rocky creek and moved on into central Georgia. I know of one grandson, Thomas W. Charity McPETERS had several children that we first find in Greene CO. Arkansas in 1840. Their 9th child (and last) they named Preston Neely ANDERSON. Their first child they named Margaret. Is there anyone on this list who has done research on the descendants of Robert? I may find John and Charity yet. Thanks, Dru

    1. [ANDERSON-L] WorldConnect Project
    2. This is a promo for the new World Connect project. I haven't uploaded a GEDCOM yet but plan to as soon as I can check my data for errors, etc. Thought I would pass this on so that you can add yours, too. I have been hesitant to send to the sites that charge, but feel pretty comfortable with Rootsweb. The more uploaded the more chance we have of finding Anna Martin ROOTSWEB WORLDCONNECT PROJECT LAUNCHED ROOTSWEB.COM ANNOUNCES MORE THAN 5.5 MILLION NAMES ADDED TO NEWLY LAUNCHED GEDCOM HOSTING PROJECT IN 4 WEEKS OF ITS BETA TEST; HAILED AS MOST USER-FRIENDLY PROGRAM OF ITS TYPE ON THE WEB FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SEAN WALSH November 10, 1999 916-451-9212 STWalsh@rootsweb.com San Francisco -- RootsWeb.com http://www.rootsweb.com, the Internet's oldest and largest genealogy site, today launched a new Genealogical Data Communication (GEDCOM) hosting program entitled the RootsWeb WorldConnect Project http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/ "In the 4 weeks of its beta test period, users have uploaded more than 5.5 million names to the RootsWeb WorldConnect Project," stated Dr. Brian Leverich, Founder and Chairman of the Board, RootsWeb.com, Inc. GEDCOM is a standard file format developed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enables the exchange of information among genealogy software programs. RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project allows individuals, in a very simple, user-friendly way, to upload, revise, delete and download GEDCOMs on RootsWeb. Users hail the WorldConnect Project as the most unrestricted and user-friendly of its kind on the Web. Unlike with other Web sites, the RootsWeb user has complete control over their GEDCOM and can change or remove it completely at any time. RootsWeb's software is the newest, most comprehensive and advanced available on the Web. Key features allow users to: Upload a GEDCOM file generated by ANY of the major software applications WITHOUT first having to convert the file to HTML; Revise or delete GEDCOMs as well as change the display or download options at any time; Link the GEDCOM to a home page; Screen or remove information about living individuals from the GEDCOM; Attach Post-Em notes both from the GEDCOM originator and from other RootsWeb users to the record of a particular individual, similar to the Post-Em Notes in RootsWeb's Social Security Death Index; Link a GEDCOM to other GEDCOMs using Post-Ems; Download subsets (portions) of the original GEDCOM, starting with a specific person and choosing either ancestors or descendants; and Display GEDCOMs in the most highly flexible ways available on the Web. A user need not have a Web site or even Internet access to post a GEDCOM. RootsWeb will accept GEDCOMs on floppy disks or ZIP drive disks. Users having trouble uploading a GEDCOM for any reason should send it on a floppy disk or ZIP disk to: RootsWeb WorldConnect Project, 1001 Tower Way, Suite #120, Bakersfield, CA 93309. RootsWeb will upload the GEDCOM and send notification by e-mail of such user's account name and password. RootsWeb's default display choice is to remove the names of everyone in a user's GEDCOM who was born within the past 100 years. Thereafter, the user can change the viewing options at any time by going to http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/. Users should remember to enclose an e-mail address with the disk containing the GEDCOM or RootsWeb will have no way to notify them regarding their account name and password. Please also note that RootsWeb will destroy the disks it receives after uploading the GEDCOMs they contain. "Our GEDCOM program has been months in the making and was developed by some of the most talented programmers in the business," said Dr. Leverich. "The display capabilities set a new standard. This new feature reinforces RootsWeb's leadership position in the rapidly expanding online genealogical community which we helped to create and continue to define." "RootsWeb prides itself on being the consumer's friend. You will never see it taking the hard work of RootsWeb users and burning that information into a CD-ROM or charging others to access," said Dr. Leverich. "In addition, users have FULL control of their GEDCOMs and can change or remove them at any time." Leverich concluded by advising all genealogists to listen to reactions from some of the participants in the beta test of the RootsWeb WorldConnect Project. http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/

    1. [ANDERSON-L] Seeking ancestors of Caleb ANDERSON [1801-1870] of Halifax County, VA
    2. Richard B Anderson Jr
    3. Hello from southern Virginia, First, I'm trying to trace my ANDERSON ancestry in southern Virginia. My father, who passed away last year, was Richard Blair ANDERSON, Sr. [5 July 1925-18 July 1998]. His father was John Buchanan ANDERSON [b. 1890s, d. 1941], and John's father was Chesley Samuel ANDERSON [1868-1921, I believe]. Chesley was born in Halifax County, Virginia, and died in Florida. Chesley Samuel was the son of Caleb ANDERSON [b. abt. 1801, d. abt. 1870, both possibly in Halifax County, Virginia] and Nancy FIRESHEETS. That's as far back as I can take my ANDERSONs, although I know Nancy had a brother, David, who married Sarah ANDERSON, known to be the daughter of a Jacob ANDERSON of Pittsylvania County, Virginia, and *possibly* a sister to Caleb, although proof is almost impossible to obtain. If anyone else is researching the same family, PLEASE get in touch with me. This is getting to be a 10-year brick wall for me, even though I can apparently go much further back with other family lines. Best wishes for genealogical successes this year and in the future, Richard B. Anderson, Jr., Danville, Virginia USA bandbooster@mindspring.com

    3. Hi Can anyone help this person with information about Judith ANDERSON. If fo please reply to bill.wall@locusone.com Sue WALL Braxton Wall (my great 4 times grandfather) owned land in Montgomery co TN. in early 1800's.his wifes name was Judith Anderson. He moved there from Halifax Co, VA and left TN to move to Trigg Co. KY. We think his father was Charles Wall of Halifax, VA and his mother Elizabeth Bates m 1762. I notice that relatives of Henry Wall , also from Halifax VA moved to Montgomery Co, TN sometime later. Can you confirm any of this? Are Braxton Wall and Henry Wall related? If so I think I can trace my family back to mid 1600's in VA. Thank you, Bill Wall bill wall bill.wall@locusone.com Submitted on Tue Oct 19 21:40:40 EDT 1999

    1. [ANDERSON-L] Marriages in Green Co. , Virginia
    2. Sarah Kincaid
    3. Does anyone have any marriage listing's for Green Co. , Virginia , for the years of 1885 through 1892 ? I need a marriage look up for William H/A . Anderson , he could have had a marriage between Betty Bryant and Virginia A. Smith , I have the marriage for Betty Bryant , but not for Virginia A. Smith. His marriage to Virginia Smith would have been 1892 or before, they had their first child in 1892. If anyone can find them on the Virginia census , it would have been in the 1900 census ,after 1892 they would have been in Green Co. , Virginia for 12 yrs., during this time they had six of their children and then moved to West Virginia. Can anyone help me? The names of the children born to them in Virginia were; Lillian , Mary Emma , William (Bill) , Mckennly or Kenny, Nellie , Jane would have been a baby of under one yr. or a little over a yr. I hope someone out their can help me. It seems like our Anderson list has just about faded away. I haven't send anyone on for a few months. Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone. Sarah skincaid@cwv.net

    1. [ANDERSON-L] Byron ANDERSON-1839 IL>abt 1921 KS
    2. Just got some NARA pension records for Byron ANDERSON, another of my gr-grandmother's brothers. Byron was born in 1839 in Clark Cty, IL, lived in Darwin. He married Hulda Besser & it looks like they had a son (born 1867, possibly J. B. Anderson, named after Byron's father James B. Anderson?) & daughter (1863-1894). Unfortunately, his handwriting is difficult to read. In 1890 he was living in Marshall, Clark, IL & later moved to Pittsburg, Crawford, KS where he died. Does anyone have any Irish Andersons in Kansas? Mary Jane L.

    1. [ANDERSON-L] DAVID D. ANDERSON
    2. David D. Anderson was in DeKalb Co., GA in 1830. I found him on page 56 of the DeKalb Census: 400001---00001 -- 11 (1 slave, 1 free colored). He is listed in Inf Court Min., DeKalb Co., GA in Wm. F. Chewning vs Robert Anderson 1-12-1832, David D. Anderson was security for defendant. Reference: Leon S. Hollingsworth Genealogical Card File #12. Also listed as security in case of Daniel Bird vs. Robert Anderson, 1-17-1833, Reference: Ibid. I think that David D., Robert, Samuel, and William M. Anderson are related to my Timothy Smith Anderson that I found on the 1840 DeKalb Co., Census. Timothy moved to Benton County, AL about 1843-44 and died there later in Cleburne Co. (Benton became Calhoun then Cleburne). Bill

I have it on paper, and it works for me, but as I am now talking to others on the Internet, I don't want to have to type all of the names and dates to each separate individual when I email them the family info they are looking for.
