    3. I am searching for any information on Elizabeth, daughter of James ANDERSON, who died in Butts Co, GA in 1836. Was she the same Elizabeth ANDERSON, who married John LEE 1826 in Butts Co, GA. Does anyone know what happened to the family? Did they migrate to Kemper Co, MS or AL? Did he die and she re-marry? Carol Shrader Virginia Beach, VA

    3. Sarah and all researchers, especially the Anderson Clans. I really pays to invest a few dollars in the copies of older maps and state and county. Remember as Sarah and I have that I one time Virginia included territory clear to the Mississippi River, so if you are researching someone that lived in Kentucky and in later years state he was born there, also look toward VA, NOT invisioning the state as it is. Also the census is only A GUIDE, do not take it as gospel, all of us have found errors in the census. A bible or court records are more reliable, but do not discount the census. I use every tool I can to prove or disprove relationships and when it comes to Andersons this is a real TASK. Margaret Butler

    3. Sarah, I think your right about the census not always being correct. My Anderson line began in Buckingham Co. and moved to Nelson Co Virginia in 1830. The census lists Nelson as his birthplace, but he was born in Buckingham Co. per his death records and per all the research done tracing him back to Buckingham Co. Good luck! 2. I've noticed at lot of discussion of county names involving Virginia and West Virginia. I am not aware of all the details, but I know from correspondence in other groups that a number of counties in what is now West Virginia were renamed (possibly when it split off from Virginia?). It may be worthwhile for those doing research in this area to look up historical maps of these states showing their counties at various points in time. Regards, Charles J. (Charlie) Jefferson

    3. Margaret, Boy did I have to learn that the hard way, I found my William Anderson the first time on the census in W.V.in 1910 , it gives his birth place as Madison Co., Virginia , and the children's birthplace as Green Co. , Virginia , but I think this is incorrect , because I found some of their Obits and it gave their birthplace as Amherst Co. Virginia. Several of those obits I have found and each child's birthplace was given as Amherst Co., so something is wrong somewhere. So this tells me that you can't always depend on the census to give the correct birthplace. What do you feel about this ? I know you have been searching longer than I have . 3. Hello Ruth, I wasn't aware you get info from Ancestry free till the 4th of Jan. I don't think James Anderson was in the Civil War according to his family's info. If I get to the library before the 4th I will check it out though. I don't have internet service so have to do that at the library and have been working more so haven't had time to do that even. Thanks for the info. Gladys ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! This warning about the date-display format is a hoax. The display format is just that, a display format, for consumption by humans. Humans can understand 2-digit dating. My father was born in '99 and died in '70. My grandson was born in '96 and I expect another grandchild in '00. In context, there's no ambiguity about whether the implied digits are "18", "19", or "20". Just to get back on topic, my grandson and prospective grandchild are descended from George Ledlow ANDERSON and his wife Ann Mariah SINGLETON of Harford County, Maryland. Merry Christmas and happy Y2K to all! Glenn

    3. Thanks for your input Chrysty but I don't know if there was a connection to my James Anderson and Mary Richey before Clark Co. MO. The Richey's were in Jennings Co. IN before coming to Clark Co. MO and only have her parents as Thomas C. Richey Jr. and Frances Fitzgerald both of Jennings Co. IN. Thomas Jr's parents were Thomas Sr. and Mary Bonnell Blackford. Blackfords and were from NJ before going to Ky and IN and Fitzgeralds were from VA before KY and IN. Just James Anderson's siblings and parents have me stumped and has for 30 years.
