    2. I have so many John Anderson's but none that would have been in the VA/WV area as early as 1797 I don't think. I was thinking on the Charlestown Academy though and I could see my Anderson's sending a son there as we were/are a family of educators and big believers even back then in education. In fact, one of my ggggggg-fathers' sons (don't know how many) was probably one of the first teachers in PA: Taken from the 1910 Historical Souvenir Book for Phoenixville, Pa: "that probably the earliest teacher in this vicinity was Patrick Anderson, son of James Anderson, a Scotchman by birth, who was the first settler in what is now SchuykillTownship, in about the year 1710. Patrick Anderson, his son, when quite young, was sent by his parents to Philadelphia, there to be educated; and this was done of course, because of the lack of schools then in this section of the country. Mr. Pennypacker in his history says, that upon Patrick's return from Philadelphia, 'he taught the children of the neighbors in his father's house.'"

There is a list of those Grand Lodge on-line at: http://mastermason.com/mmlinks/GL.htm This is not always fool-proof...records can get lost when Lodges become defunct or consolidate or merge into other Lodges. 2. I have Anderson ties in two areas of South Dakota. The first is in the Gary, Clear Lake area and the second group is in the Fairview, Canton area. These families also spent time accross the Sioux River in Iowa, mainly the Larchwood and Inwood areas. Would like to compare notes with others that might have some connection. Jim Cochrane

In the Grand lodge of Massachusetts there is a record of anyone who ever was a Mason in the state. I found out that my great, great, great grandfather was a Mason through this method. 2. Oh, how I wish I had a DOB, DOD, spouse, anything on this John Anderson. All I know is that he is mentioned over and over again in family oral history and the story is consistent: He lived in Charlestown, Jefferson County, VA (now WVA), he was a friend of George North, he may have been a cooper, he had a son David born April 15, 1797 in Charlestown who grew up in Charlestown, attended the old Charlestown Academy (an educational institution to teach Latin and the classics to young boys). He was probably pretty well off for the times and also well educated himself. The Norths were both and probably would not have been good friends with a family that was not peers (not snobbishness, just reality!), especially since John's grandson and George's granddaughter married. There are sooooooo many John Andersons but I can't get a connection on this one! Any help would be much appreciated as this is my last significant brick wall! Susan

    2. Randy It did not say in the probate where John Anderson was living just not living in Indian. I don't know even where this John was born. Just that he had something to do with the will. I was just guessing that he was born in Ohio. As my g grandfather was. Sincerely Otto Anderson

    2. Otto, I am looking for the parents of my John W. Anderson. John W. Anderson was born in Indiana, Jan 1823. Moved to Ill. and was married in Macoupin County, Ill. Jan 1843. Censes records indicate that John W.'s father was born in Kentucky and his mother in INdiana. Do not know who any of siblings were. Does your probate mention anything that might tie to your JOhn Anderson? Sincerely Randy Anderson

    3. Hi All, Researching the following ANDERSONs in or around Shelby Co. Tn. Edward was married to Mary (nee HARMAN(ON). The children were; Frank b. 1877, Edward, Floyd, Hopper, Sadie, plus two more? The only firm info I have is a listing from a City Directory that they lived in Fort Pickering, Shelby Co. in 1885. They might have migrated to St. Louis, Mo. because Frank married Ada (nee ECKERT) there in 1903. Any connections? Happy searching, Wayne
