Hi friends, Since I changed the List "reply-to" setting to have replies to the list we have had more traffic. Please make an effort to: 1. Use a subject line that is informative 2. Reply to the sender if your response is not meant for the whole list 3. Try not to use the list for discussion of topics other than ANDERSON genealogy We continue to lose membership (590 now from a high of 640) and since my responsibility is to serve as many of the genealogical community as possible, I am going to set a bottom limit of 575. If we drop below that membership I will be forced to return the "reply-to" settings to the originator. That will cut the volume of list traffic and we will loose a little continuity in responses. Many Masons dont tell all that they are masons. Myself I am a proud freemason & never hold back about the subjuct. Also because we are all masons doesnt meen that the rules are the same in each country / state. I belong to a computer club & the ladies there sometimes give me information that they wish looked up at our library. The sort of thing on file here is name in full,address at time of joining, age at joining, occupation, date of joining, and name of lodge he joined.Some counteries have retained that a man cant join till aged 21 hoverer that is reduced in my state to 18 years. I have a GG Grandfather named John C. Anderson B: abt 1822 in Indiana according to census. He married Sarah Gibbs , daughter of Richard Gibbs, on December, 1843 in Madison (Jefferson county) Indiana. Hi all. Lori's answer was a very good one. In fact I don't really know that I could add much too it. If mother hadn't been a Past Worthy Matron of #10 and my cousin is a Past Matron of the merged one, I don't know if the Secretary would have been so cooperative. I would venture to say that the only genealogical data you might obtain from OES would the member's relationship to a Master Mason. I don't think the applicant had to state her age - only verify that she had attained the age of 18. But, of course remember how long I have belonged and many things may have changed. Mary Alice

Mary Alice, What kind of information can you expect to find from either the Masons or the Eastern Star? What info is in the initiation?What are the degrees? Thanks, Sandy The person who wrote and said that you would have to know the chapter # and if it still exists is right on the mark. I belonged to the OES and there is really no vital information to give. If you just want to know when they joined that is about it. The extensive record keeping of each meeting is there and in my chapter you would have volumes to read through. We were fortunate to have had a secretary for 30 some years but she would even have trouble telling you when someone was initiated into the order. As for the degrees, they are secret and no one can give out that information. The initiation ceremony is also secret and deals with the degrees. But there is no family information except for maybe their address at the time. I'm not sure if the Masons are the same way but I was always led to believe that they were. Of course this may be different in each state. I belong in Illinois.
