    2. Roger and Esta Anderson
    3. Pat, As you might be aware, most of the Courthouse records in Caroline Co., VA were destroyed by fire. I have been able to tie some of the property records together, but not sure of the same names. Still working. You have my permission to fold this information into your website. I did find a Lawrence page on website and would appreciate your sending me the current GEDCOM of Lawrence Anderson family. I thought the information I posted was interesting since it came from Joel Anderson, Sr.'s Bible. I have additional information on dates if you are interested, but I believe you might have most of it. 3. Only if you are direct kin I've been told. Mother,Father, sister or brother. a grandchild can get his or her Grandparents with proof that you are who you say you are, In Virginia this can be done but you can't get a uncle or an aunts birth certificate because they say you are not direct kin. I tried but they wouldn't let me. Its true that some of them do get State grants some times to help in small ways but most of the funds they come by is from hard work and their church socials,Powwows and Homecomings. They also do get funds from the private sector in the form of contributions to the tribes. I know this for a fact because I am a Monacan Tribal Council member. 1. [ANDERSON-L] SWINFIELD ANDERSON
    2. A historian by the name of Virginia Easley DeMarce, studying the Melungeons of the region, presented a paper to the NGS in May, 1996. In that paper she references the Handy Book, Hancock Co., TN: 1844, Claiborne, Hawkins, Main Street., Sneedville, TN 37869-9501. There she talks about the early tax records of Hawkins Co. TN (1810) of Capt. Looney's Co. (Creekmore 1980, 170-172) and appearing there on are the names of Swinfield Anderson and James Anderson, et al. And she copies a partial list from this publication. Next to Swinfield Anderson's name is a footnote 22 and at the bottom of the page she writes: "WILLIS, Larkin dated 14 Oct 1846 census proven 1859. Wife Elizabeth Willis (n.b. see Sizemore). William Berry. Legatees James Willis, Samuel Willis, Patsy Kyle, Solomon Willis. Friends John Mitchell and Swimpfield Anderson, exe cutors. Wits: James Payne, George Payne, James M. Moneyhan (Gardner 1991, 83). NARS M-432, Roll 882, 1850 U.S. Census, Hawkins Co. TN, p316, District No. 3, 29 nov #8/8: Swympfield Anderson, 69, m, farmer, $2000, TN; Sarah, 48, b. VA, and children. Eakin, Joane Chiles, comp. "Conference Records from the United Daughters of the Confederacy Files." Volume One. Father's name Swimpfield Anderson, b 15 Feb 1782, Grayson Co., VA -- d 2 Nov 1865; mother's name Sally Perkins, b Grayson Co., VA -- d1881, Hawkins Co., TN. Grandfather was Wm. Anderson, maternal grandfather was ______ Gordon. Father Swimpfield Anderson volunteered for the War of 1812 but was never sent to the front. More data in entry." Hope this helps someone. 2. Sheila, I saw you had information on the descendants of Swimpfield Anderson who resided in Hawkins Co TN, According to one of my relatives, he was married to Elizabeth Sullivan, the sister to my ancestor, Ezekiel Sullivan. Do have the parents of Ezekiel and Elizabeth? I would love to have the descendants of Swimpfield Anderson. If you are interested I would be glad to send you the descendants of Ezekiel Sullivan. I also have a couple Anderson lines in Grayson Co VA. I descend from John Hawkins Hash and his spouse, Polly Anderson. I do not know anything about Polly's family. I also descend from the old John Hash and Rebecca Anderson the daughter of Jacob Anderson. I would be willing to share the little that I have. Hope to hear from you soon. Carmen Kay

    3. Dear Standingbear, Do you live on or near the reservation in NC? Do you know John Bullet Standingdeer, the one who ran recently for tribal council (or was it for presidency)? If you do, tell him I still have a picture of him as the Happy Warrior that I took at a powwow at Cherokee about 10-11 years ago. I also met a friend of his named, I think, Leonard S---------(?), who lives in Raleigh (where I live) and makes silver jewelry. I was the short, dumpling of a woman with a camera. When I asked him if he had made his wonderful costume, he told me with his best noble savage straight face that he had to "because I have no woman to do it for me." I nearly fell on the ground laughing, and that broke the ice. He let me follow me around for a while and told me all about his family and the significance of his costume. I still smile when I think about that afternoon. There's no reason he would necessarily remember me, but he made a strong impression on me, enough so that I checked on the election results. I'm sorry he lost! 3. Judy, Is that "Washington" a middle or given name? Consider that they might have been Native, possibly Cherokee, as they often adopted ultra-patriotic names to avoisd the stigma of Native names. Just a thought. 3. I am looking for any information on my fathers ancestors. My father is Emanuel. Here is the information I have. I would say that locations for what I have so far is all in Southwest Virginia. I saw the earlier post on Land grants in southwest Virginia before 1800 and wondered if there might be a tie. I also saw the names James and William on the 1907 Cherokee Rolls. Problem is neither list has decendants, wives or dates so how do you tie them together? Has anyone else hear of Happy Hollow, Mendota, Virgina? I use to go there as a kid for family reunions and the Reunions are still held there. It is the Anderson homestead for my father's family. Any help is greatly appreciated.
