Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Wl.2ADIB/8771 Message Board Post: From the Sherburn Advance-Standard, Sherburn, Martin County Minnesota Typed just as it appeared in the original newspaper including any/all typos. Dated Thursday, September 10, 1925 Monterey Man Drowns At Fox Lake Beach The Fox Lake Park bathing beach was visited by its first tragic drowning last Friday evening at about 7: 30, when Algot Anderson of Monterey met death while swimming near the diving board. Mr. Anderson came down with a number of Twin village friends to enjoy the deep waters of beautiful Fox Lake. Mr. Anderson, whose heart was not strong, made the mistake of going into the cool water after an extremely hot day and after a hearty supper. He had not been in the water very long until he cried for help. His friends, noticing his distress, at once undertook to assist him in, but his frightened attitude he put up such a fight that they were forced to keep away from him in order to save themselves. The body was recovered within a short time after going under, and while every effort was made to revive the victim nothing availed. Dr. Farrish, who was on the ground when the body was brot in, found that death resulted, not from drowning but from heart failure, there being no water on the lungs. Mr. Anderson was a single man and was interested with the firm of Anderson & Peterson, hardware men of Monterey. The firm was comparatively a new one, having been established within the past year. Previous to entering business Mr. Anderson was engaged in farming in the Monterey district. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Emma Anderson, of Triumph. The funeral was held Monday from the Swedish Mission church, Monterey. ~Volunteer Posting.
