My ancestry goes back to Edward Burns, born near Perthshire, Scotland in 1754. His father died when he was a young boy. He was apprenticed to a silversmith in Liverpool. He being the youngest son, was willed by his father a sum of money, left in the Bank of England; when he became of age he journeyed to London to get his legacy. While there he was forced to join the British army and taken to Quebec, Canada. On landing, knowing he was to fight the Colonist, he and two companions deserted the British troops, crossed the river on the ice and started south. They were captured near the American frontier and taken to Guildhall, VT by WILLIAM AMY, a Revolutionary soldier, a brother of Micah AMY. Edward Burns joined a Connecticut Regiment. After the war he returned to Guildhall, VT and married Abigail Amy before 1788. Town records of Guildhall give thesse children: John born 1788 married Nancy Glass 1812.
