Author: KippMelat Surnames: Amy Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.amy/167.4/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am a descendant of Abraham/Abram Amy who also settled in Crawford Co., PA. I think you are on to something by suggesting that Thomas of Crawford Co is not the son of Micah. But I am interested in knowing what evidence there is that points to Thomas of Crawford Co. being the son of Micah? I do have a working theory of who Thomas and Abraham are, but I must first state that I have no proof, and I certainly can't say one way or another if Thomas of Crawford is the son of Micah or not. But here is my working theory: Abraham, Thomas, and Eastman (who was also in Crawford Co, but later moved to Michigan) are brothers, sons of John Amy of Crown Point, Essex Co., NY. I have seen some claims that John was a son of Micah Sr.--but again I have no proof. My working theory is based purely on census records and several references that Abraham came to Crawford Co from Crown Point, Essex Co. OK, so here is the census records I have used to piece this together. 1820, Crown Point Essex Co., NY John Amy, 2 males 10-16, 1 male 16-18, 1 male 16-26, 1 male over 45, 2 female under 10, 1 female 10-16, 1 female over 45 Abraham Amy, 1 male 16-26, 2 males over 45 1830 Schroon, Essex Co., NY John Amy, 2 males 20-30, 1 male 60-70, 2 females 15-20, 1 female 20-30,1 female 50-60 Abraham Amy, 2 males under 5, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 30-40, 2 females 5-10, 1 female 20-30 Thomas Amy, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 20-30, 1 female 15-20 (household next to John) 1840 Rockdale Tp., Crawford Co., PA Abraham Amy, 2 males under 5, 1 male 5-10, 2 males 10-15, 1 male 40-50, 1 female 5-10, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 40-50, 1 female 70-80 Thomas Amy, 1 male under 5, 1 male 5-10, 1 male 30-40, 2 females under 5, 1 female 5-10, 1 female 40-50 Eastman Amy, 1 male 30-40, 1 female 20-30, 1 female 80-90 Further, in 1850, Abraham remained in Rockdale and Thomas was in Bloomfield Tp., Crawford Co. Also in Bloomfield Tp. was the household of William and Louisa Martin which included a Martha Amy, aged 77. All were born in NY. Haven't been able to find this Martin family in 1840, but I wonder if Louisa is not a sister of Abraham, Thomas, and Eastman, and Martha is their mother? Again, all of this is speculation and some of the answer may lie in Essex Co. NY. I would certainly appreciate any comments on my theory.
