My e-mail is available if you click on my name if you want to contact me directly. To answer your question: y-DNA is only in males, and is passed virtually unchanged from father to son. That is why the person tested would need to be a male surname AMY that is descended from Thomas to test. There is some information about DNA testing here: http://www.worldfamilies.net/dnatesting Rick Saunders Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jedminster1 Surnames: Amy, Loomis Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.amy/167.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I've spent a little time on this branch of the family over the last week. I'm not much closer to an answer. Do you have any information on Thomas D. for the period between 1850 and 1880 before he's living with his daughter, Harriet, and Josiah Loomis? I've found him in one place, the Gazetteer and Business Directory of Crawford County, PA., for 1874. He's living just west of his son, Charles who has a farm on the corner of what are now Brown Hill Rd and Wilkins Rd. Both are listed as farmers. Son, Henry, also appears in Bloomfield twsp in Riceville and is listed as a teamster. I have an 1876 Landowner map that confirms Charles' location (northeast corner of the intersection). Thomas is not listed as a property owner on this map, but Josiah Loomis is listed a couple properties to the east on the south side of Brown Hill Road, so it's likely that Thomas living with either Charles or Harriet by 1876. Unfortunately, I do not know of any family Bible and am not in contact with any members of the Amy family. I would enjoy discussing what further links we may have. If you want, you can visit my site, edminster.org, and e-mail me from there. These forums can get a bit clunky for extended conversations.
