One Thomas died in Steele Co. MN and the other on Crawford PA. I was wondering if anyone got any headway with that puzzle? I appear to descend from the one who died in Crawford PA. Thanks! She was married in 1831 to John P. Cole and together they had 3 children Margaret (Marietta) Cole, Sarah Louise Cole and Charles Jerome Cole (I am descended through Charles). After John died she married Charles Amy, they had no children together but Charles did have children from his previous marriage. Obituary of Sophia Bates Amy Miss Sophia Bates was born August 10th, 1812, in the town of Danbury (Danby) Vermont. Was married in 1831 to John P. Cole; moved to Buffalo, then to Michigan where Mr. Cole died. Author: susan12808 Surnames: Amy Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.amy/180/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have come across a possible mistake in an Amy family tree which has been copied and repeated through many other trees on ancestry. I visited the churchyard at St Teath in Cornwall recently and found a Susanna Amy who died in 1841 aged 18. It says on her gravestone that her parents were Cotton and Ann Amy. Cotton (1780-1829) is buried in the same grave. The problem is that all the trees on ancestry I've seen say that Susanna daughter of Cotton and Ann in 1823 went on to marry a John Hora and that she lived till 1907! The Susanna who is wife to John Hora usually gives her place of birth as Lanteglos near Helston, rather than St Teath. There is a marriage between a Susanna Amy and a John Hora in 1845 but I believe this has to be a different Susanna Amy who happened to be born in the same year hence the confusion. Can anyone enlighten me as to who this Susanna's parents might have been so that I can clear this up once and for all? And if my theory is right, how can I go about correcting the mistakes in the public trees on ancestry? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If we separate the Thomas's and look at their movements we can at least establish who belongs to who--at least in a general sense. The fact that both Thomas of Bloomfield and Thomas of MN where born in VT around the same time can be confusing, but I think that it becomes clear that if you track Thomas from Bloomfield backward it points to an association with Abraham and Eastman and Essex Co., NY. There are also references to this Abraham (my ancestor) being born in VT (census and family records). Thomas, Abraham, and Eastman were contemporaries (born between 1796 and 1809) and lived in Essex Co. NY and Crawford Co. PA. A look at census records does show a John Amy in Essex Co., NY that was older that Thomas, Abraham, and Eastman. I see no reference to Micah in Essex Co., NY nor do I see that Thomas, Abraham or Eastman used the name of Micah in their families. Do you know where the Thomas of MN was before 1850? As far as Melat goes, I do believe my family is connected to Gideon Marlet, just can't prove it. I am looking at Joseph Marlet who was in western PA before going to Canada in the early 1800s. Might be my connection. Are you connected to this family? (email: kipp.melat@yahoo.com) Cheers, Kipp Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
