    3. Please help this person ---but use [email protected] for contact... not a member of this list.. I don't know the German address for the HETRINA but he might start there and they could tell him where to find records of the ones who went home....?? Thanks Nelda From: [email protected] Date: Wed, 28 Nov 2012 02:17:41 -0500 Subject: Hessian soldiers in the American Revolution To: [email protected] I am from Oberursel/Taunus near Frankfurt, Germany. One of my father's ancestors from the same town, Johann Nikolaus Westenburger (born 4 September 1751) served in America during the revolution. All we know of his service is from a letter he wrote his parents from New York. The date is obscured but appears to be 1777. The ship transporting him to America sank in a storm off Bermuda. He was rescued, recovered in a hospital on the island, and was then transported to New York where he earned two medals still in my uncle's possession. Are there surviving unit rosters of Hessian soldiers that would enable us to identify his unit? Are there surviving unit records that might enable us to learn where he fought. We know that he returned home in 1783, became a shoemaker, and married in 1789. Karl Lowe
