A cousin notified me of the following announcement on the Hessian Barracks, Frederick, Maryland Facebook site: http://www.facebook.com/HessianBarracks1777?sk=wall “The Hessian Barracks mantains a complete roster of the 714 Ansbach-Bayreuth troops who stayed in North America after the Revolution. This record serves as a point of departure for researching the origins of a South German auxiliary, because in many cases it states his place of birth. This crucial bit of information unlocks a treasure store of data contained in local parish records. Baptism and confirmation entries of the period generally list three generations plus attending witnessses. Please contact Carl A. Robin, Curator, at 301.360.1455 for assistance.” I am not sure what sources were used to compile this information, but I’m excited to find out! Several years ago I tried to contact Professor Robin but was unsuccessful. I heard that he was in the process of translating five diaries of former Hessian prisoners at that time. So maybe this is a rehash of already known information, but maybe it is something new that has come onto the scene! I know that if I had access to information about my Ansbacher’s place of birth when I was looking for him, I could have saved many thousands of dollars and years of research! I will call the phone number given and see what I can find out! Marie Rasnick Fetzer
