    1. [AMREV-HESSIANS] Brunswick Prisoners Held in Connecticut
    2. Matt Reardon
    3. Ever since I discovered that prisoners from Burgoyne's army were housed in my town during the latter part of the war, I have always wondered who they were and where exactly they were held.  I've spent the last year of so digging through a bunch of sources and would like to share what I've found thus far with the list. As you probably already know prisoners of Burgoyne's army was sent back up to north as the war progressed in the south.  Well roughly 178 of those prisoners ended up in Connecticut and were to be divided between two towns, East Windsor (now South Windsor) and Tolland (my hometown). I discovered the following list in "The History and Genealogies of Ancient Windsor, Connecticut."  It can be accessed for free online through google books.  These are the names of the Brunswick prisoners held between the two towns.  It lists the unit, the number of that unit held in Connecticut, the officer held prisoner, the number of that officer's servants (I assume these are probably enlisted soldiers?).  I haven't yet been able to separate the list by towns. Any suggestions where I can further my research on them in Connecticut would be greatly appreciated. -Matt Prinz Ludwig Dragoons-(3) Lieutenant August Bornemann (1. 3. Thanks Matt,   My ancestor was in the Specht regiment, but he stayed in PA.  Did not know part of the regiment went to Connecticut.  They went there after having been held in Charlottesville, VA or on the way to Charlottesville?   From what I have read the servants were not soldiers, but civilians that the officers brought with them.  Both General Reidesel and the Baronese brought civilian servants, according to their memoirs.   Suzanne Pryse From: Matt Reardon <[email protected]> To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, June 9, 2012 7:37 PM Subject: [AMREV-HESSIANS] Brunswick Prisoners Held in Connecticut Ever since I discovered that prisoners from Burgoyne's army were housed in my town during the latter part of the war, I have always wondered who they were and where exactly they were held.  I've spent the last year of so digging through a bunch of sources and would like to share what I've found thus far with the list.
