Nelda, thanks for the information. I found out my Great Granmother Addie Gilmore was Married to Alexander LinKous and that Henry Heinrich Linkous was my great, great, great Grandfather? And also found out that the Linkous Family house is still in Blacksburg VA, and dates back to 1799 and is preserved as historical. That would explain why my father grew up in Bluefield West virginia not far from Blacksburg. I grew up as a Military Brat and never knew much about the other side. Dad passed away in England at 44 shortly after retirement from the Army, and Mom was from Bristol England. Linkous spriggs1441 (View posts) Posted: 25 Jan 2008 10:03PM Classification: Death Surnames: LINKOUS I am saddened to report to the LINKOUS Community the death of Clovis E. Linkous in Blacksburg VA on Saturday, 12 January 2008. You would not be reading this, if you were not interested in LINKOUS genealogy. If you are interested in LINKOUS genealogy, then you most probably are aware of the staggering amount of research on our family history which Clovis accomplished and which he compiled into the two editions of his book, The Linkous Family History. For giving all of us LINKOUS descendents our place in history, we owe him a debt which could never be repaid. Rest In Peace ... cousin. David A. You most certainly have added a lot to what was known so far. I will copy this reply to the other researchers, and you all may contact each other. As to the real identity of your Henry Linkous, I think we almost have him nailed down, although in the beginning we had another choice. At first I believed he was a Hessian soldier named Henrich Lincker, who had deserted his troops in Sep.1782, but as more information came in, supplied by other researchers, there was only one choice left, that of the Brunswick soldier Heinrich Linckert, who according to the Monograph #1 - Brunswick Deserter-Immigrants of the American Revolution by Clifford Neal Smith, was born in Wasserborn/Eichsfeld appr.1745. He was part of the Burgoyne army captured at Saratoga and brought down to Charlottesville, Virginia. He was still listed as a POW whereabouts unknown. Investigation by one descendant at the Brunswick archives Wolfenbuettel revealed that the place name Wasserborn had changed to Weissenborn- Luderode in Eichsfeld, and that to his amazement the name was spelled Linckost in a clear and readable signature. As far as I understand this descendant has written a book about his research, and I would suggest to contact him directly. His name is Clovis E. Linkous, from Blacksburg, VA mailto: [email protected] Let me say, I am glad we now have covered the history of this Brunswick-Hessian, and I declare this to be a red-letter day. Nelda, Using that HETRINA online look up that was posted not long ago: http://www.lagis-hessen.de/en/subjects/xsform/sn/hetrina I find nothing similar to that name. There is Linck, Linckebach, Lincker and Linckersdorf. According to Claus Reuter's Index of all Brunswick soldiers who stayed in North America, Heinrich Linckost is listed as a prisoner of war, and then as "unknown", which I take to mean no knows what happened to him. -RNS -----Original Message----- >From: Nelda Percival <[email protected]> >Sent: Aug 11, 2012 7:39 PM >To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> >Subject: [AMREV-HESSIANS] Heinrich Linckous Look up please... > > >Would one of you do a look up in the HETRINA? > >need information on: Heinrich Linckous >I find a possibility with Linckost, Henry, Brunswick soldier S#400, in S#18-Linckert. but need advise... > >Nelda ############################### FOUNDER: John H.
