Hi, I've been lurking on this site for some time but haven't yet been active on it. There is a family rumor that there was a Hessian soldier way back. The name is Feister (changed to Fister in the 1800's). I have looked the name up on the various lists mentioned on this website but have never found a Fister or Feister. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I should start looking? Has anyone run across that name? The person in question may be Abraham Feister. I have census info but nothing tying him to Hessians. Ora Lee Klemme
You might try adding a "P" in front of the name and see what you come up with. Germans pronounce the p in words like Pfeif, but we only hear it as an "f".
