I have been trying for years now to find a list of the Hessian prisoners who were housed at these barracks in Virginia, but no one seems to be able to help me with this. Doesn't anyone on this website have this ? Reply offline if you would like. In particular, I am looking for a Johann Kreitzer (later Kritzer, Critzer, Criser, Crizer, etc.) Rufname unknown. He settled after the war within about 20 miles of Charlottesvile. Would appreciate any help. [email protected]
I haven't found an actual roster of those who were in the barracks, but there is a list of all Brunswickers and what happened to them. There is a book by Claus Reuter, Brunswick troops in North America, 1776-1783 : index of all soldiers who remained in North America. This is available at many libraries, in particular at the Library of Virginia in Richmond, VA. It is also available online for purchase at a fairly moderate price. Very interesting read.
