Fellow Listers: FYI Information from the following website: http://www.jamestownpress.com/news/2012-07-19/News/Slideshow_will_detail_Hessian_occupation.html Slideshow will Detail Hessian Occupation The Newport Artillery Company of Newport will sponsor a slideshow with author Walter Schroder at its headquarters in Newport on Saturday, July 21, at 6 p.m. Schroder will discuss the role of Hessian troops that accompanied British forces in the occupation of Newport and Rhode Island from 1776 to 1779. The talk will explore who the Hessians were, why they came to America, whether they were mercenaries or auxiliaries, and what role they played in the Battle of Rhode Island. The presentation is combined with a tour of the company’s museum. Donations will be accepted. A book signing and refreshments will follow.
