Nina, The Website and mailing list is only for Germanic soldiers who stayed in the United States of America. the 6 volume set of HETRINA lists all sorts of data but basically the running of a unit but the entries are only for the soldiers who stayed in the States. BUT..... it can give the home town /place conscripted. Which can be helpful. It isn't my group. John Merz created and ran the mailing list until just before his death, I created the website to help attract attention to the mailing list.. After John's death I ran the mailing list until my other comments became to much... now we have a silent mailing list administrator... To be part of the group researching The HESSEN soliders who stayed here you have to sign up for the free mailing list at rootsweb.com but we also have a link on the website, go to the bottom of any page see the tool bar - right side bottom see,AMREV-HESSIANS mailing list Click on it it goes to How to join "OUR" list http://freepages.military.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~bonsteinandgilpin/mailinglist.htm Then follow the directions SENDING COPY TO LIST... Thanks for keeping it going. In 1783, at the age of 37, he was "appointed" to the von Ditfurth Regiment as a Private. His name and other information appear in the unit rolls. See: HETRINA Band 2 Item 8695. He was my 4th-great grandfather. He was born and died in Wissenborn, but about 1815, the family moved to Datterode, Eschwege in Hessen. I know a lot about my ancestor from records in Datterode and at the church archives. My quesiton is, can the information from HETRINA be used to find further information about him or would it just be a list of payroll records and that sort of thing. My genealogist in Hessen has retired. I'd be willing to find another and hire him to do the research if it were potentially worthwhile. Also, how do I join your group? Sincerely, Nina L.
