Hello Hessians! A multi-pronged question: If a Hessian had brought a wife and/or children with him and he was captured, what generally happened to the family? Were there ever children and wives actually housed in the Hessian Barracks in Frederick? If a soldier died and left an orphan, who would have been in charge of seeing the child was taken care of - the Chaplain perhaps? Thank you for any help with this.
