From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: Battle of Bennington & Saratoga Date: Thu, 19 Apr 2012 17:01:40 -0400 Hi,I’m trying to find more information on one of my relatives Lt Anthon Julius (Christopher) Specht he was with the Brunswick troops in 1776 served in the corps des Chasseurs under the command of Major von Berners I find a Lt Col Specht captured near Freeman’s Farm October 7, 1777 in the Von Reidesel regiment and I find an Ensign Specht captured near Bennington August 16, 1776 in Battalion von Barner I know from family information that Athon Julius (Christopher) Specht was born in Braunsweig Germany March 22, 1749 and after the war went to Nova Scotia- years latter some of his decedents relatives came back to America and the spelling was changed to Spates.I have visited Nova Scotia and found Spates’ there. I was born in Vermont and the history around the Battle of Bennington and those in NY have captured my interest for years. I trying to piece together the time line from his arrival in 1776 until his capture and ending up in NS.We know he was married while in captivity and then went to NS. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely Grant Spates619 Goodall Rd Derby Line VT 05830802-895-4012

Hi Grant, Don't know if you've seen it, but about ten years ago the founder of this message board, the late John Merz, compiled some research on your ancestor and posted a topic titled, SPECHTS cove in St. Mary's Bay, east of Digby, N.S. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/AMREV-HESSIANS/2002-03/1017332004 Hope this helps, Bill J.
