    3. I have heard that there were several men named Holzapfel (besides my g-g-g-grandfather Johann Jacob) who served with the Hessian Erbprinz regiment from Kassel-Hesse. Does anyone know whether they might have been closely related, such as brothers or first cousins? There are a couple of Holsapple lines in the United States that begin in Virginia/West Virginia and end in Kentucky, and I am wondering about a connection with Jacob's line, centered in Albany, Clinton Co., KY. 3. Hi Patrick, Based on research of my own Hessian ancestor, I can tell you that many Hessians found their way along the migratory route through the Shenandoah Valley. When the valley became "too crowded" for them, they continued on and wound up in SW Virginia and even into Kentucky. I don't know if Holzapfel is an unusual name in Germany, but if so, it seems to increase the liklihood that those men with that name might have been closely related. After watching the "Who Do You Think You Are" special last night about Rob Lowe's visit to the State Archive in Marburg to find his Hessian ancestor, it seems like you might try to find out if any towns of origin for these Holzapfel soldiers might be listed in HETRINA, and if so, try to determine if the towns are closely located and start your research from there. Now I can tell you that DNA is a wonderful thing! If you really wanted to pursue it, you could try to persuade male members of the German Holzapfel line and the American Holsapple line to undergo y-DNA testing to determine their connection, if any. Have fun and good luck!
