Hi Gerry, John Merz died, before he did he gave his data to the SAR. I believe it is listed on the website. I have forwarded your email message to the AMREV-HESSIANS mailing list. I believe there is a few SAR members there, who might be able to tell you about John's donated records. But, I'm not sure there is anything more then what is listed. I am not a Hessian researcher, I am a descendant, yes. The study of history is not my forte. Commenting on the DNA match.. Wonderful! you both are VERY related! And I guess this person hasn't done any family genealogy talking his ancestry back to the time frame of 1750 - 1800? Members reading this.... Can anyone help this Man? Thank you Regards Nelda Today well lived - makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope. I’ve been communicating with Mr Appel and we are trying to find a connection with his family and an Appel Hessians who served in America. Would it be possible to obtain copies of Merz’s Personal Data Files for the following Appel individuals: Appel, Johannes: born August 8, 1752 at Roehrda D-3441 (now 37296 Ringgau/Hessen, south of Eschwege), private 1st Company Kassel Regt. Erbprinz. Listed as deserted January 1782. Appel, Christian: born Kassel (MHH.) Hesse-Hanau, cannoneer in Feb. 1778, transferred to Von Germann co. in July 1783, he is in Canada, but no evidence he stayed. Appel, Georg: Kassel Jeagercorps S#134, deserted from unit July 1780. Appel, Henrich: Kassel Grenadier Battalion Koehler/Graf/Platte, S#131, deserted from unit October 1778, born 1748/49. Appel, Michael: Kassel Musketeer Regt. von Donop, S#132, deserted from unit September 1782, born 1758/59. Thank you for your continued dedication to Hessian research. Kind regards, Gerry G. C.
