    1. John Eudy/Johann Uhde, Leyden, Franklin, MA
    2. Hello, I posted the following research I did on the Franklin County rootsweb site, regarding John Eudy & John Mellis. I thank you Mr. Mertz for finding this posting! I am thrilled to find out that John 'Eudy' is Johan Uhde from Seboldshausen! This is to follow-up on that posting: The "Hessian Cemetery" in Leyden adjoins the property that John Eudy & Mellis lived on. It is not 'isolated' in the sense of being buried in a remote part of the town, as my posting sounded when I re-read it! They lived in a part of Leyden, mixed in with other settlers, my husband's grandfather, Zadoc Briggs, lived amongst them as a neighbor. I became interested in Mr. Eudy & Mellis because we have had trouble locating the name of Zadoc Briggs's wife, and there is a family rumour that someone in the family was Hessian. We thought that perhaps because Zadoc was living next door to Mr. Eudy, that he had married a family member. I can't seem to find an appropriate candidate in the Eudy family however, with the information that I have, as all of the Eudy children seem to be accounted for with regard to husbands, and he doesn't have a widow that was available in time for Zadoc to have children with! (Zadoc's children are born approx.1780 through 1900). Zadoc interestingly enough, was also at Bennington & Saratoga at the surrender, having enlisted at Northampton, MA, in 1777. I am unable to find any further information on John Mellis than what I posted. If anyone has any further information on Mr. Eudy or Mellis, please do email me! I also have some wonderful photos of this cemetery, if anyone is interested. Merry Christmas to All! Louise Briggs coastkid917@aol.com
