Cyprien Tanguay's german ancestor was Anton BARTHEL Hesse-Hanau, chasseur, Kreutzbourg reg., Francken co. Married 21 May 1791 at St-Francois-du-Sud to Marie-Anne Jolin. HETRINA VI p. 50 gives Sevenhagen or Veckerhagen (Hesse-Kassel, D3512) as birth place. DeMarce only gives what the marriage record cites : from Hesse Cassel in Germany. Interesting to know that the man who "gave birth" to French Canadian genealogy has a German among his ancestors ! Dear Dominique, now we are getting somewhere - The place is VECKERHAGEN, it was D3512 and is now incorporated in 34359 Reinhardshagen, right on the river Weser, flowing north to the North Sea and the harbour Bremerhaven. The town itself isabout 30-35 km north of Kassel, the area is called the Reinhardswald.
