Company, Hessen- Hanau Regiment Erbprinz (Crown prince), on Muster already in Jan.1770, on active duty in Feb.1776. Taken POW at Saratoga, N.Y. in Oct. 1777, and kept a prisoner until he indentured himself in Nov.1782, meaning he sold himself for a period of 3 years to escape the harsh conditions in the prison camp. Additional Note: There were several other soldiers with the last name Kunkel/Kunckel, a Michael from Floersbach, same unit as above, a Friedrich with the Hanau Jaegers, discharged in Canada in 1783, and one Johannes with the Waldeck Regiment, who deserted in the USA in 1778.
