Thank you for your prompt response. I found your earlier correspondence, that led to the magazine article I referenced. But I still have a problem. Your earlier info said Johann Schoenewolff was listed as a deserter in June of 1781. The Vital Records of Leominster, Mass contain the marriage certificate of John Casper Shana Wolf to Rachel Battels in January of 1781. I have been to the side-by-side graves of them both in Rockingham, Vermont. Also, "The History of Rockingham" lists different parents for John. Oh well, more digging to do before things are confirmed!

Jack, as I recall from memory - Johann and Johannes Schoen(e)wolf are not the same as Kaspar Schoenewolf -keep digging in the archives, did you look for 'shana' ?
