    2. Just intruding a bit here but I wish to comment on the first sentence re: "...of many descendants of Christian Schaffer--ALL LUTHERANS OF THE REFORMED CHURCH, as was he." The Lutheran Church began in the 16th century "Reformation". The "Reformed" churches, too, had their beginnings in the 16th century growing out of the work of John Calvin of Geneva and Ulrich Zwingli of Zurich. Today, the "Reformed" churches of the world generally are loosely joined in the World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC). Today, most of the Presbyterian denominations (not all!) are members of WARC. Lutheran churches are not included in this group and are not generally known as "Reformed" churches. Reading between your lines, Jeri, I believe that the 'many descendants of Christian Shaffer' were probably NOT Lutheran but rather were of members the "German" Reformed Church. Over the centuries this denomination became a part of today's UCC or United Church of Christ, another WARC denomination. Others who merged into UCC were the "Christian Church" and the Congregational Churches, primarily found in New England. I hope this is helpful. John M. OOPS! I had previously checked the Berks County list of churches and found the baptismal records of many descendents of Christian Schaffer--all Lutherans of the Reformed Church, as was he. The Quaker info came from List-member Daniel Quinn. Actually, he states that "Exeter was Quaker. The Schaffers were Reformed mostly." I certainly misquoted him--mea culpa, my apologies to you and the List. While in the county, Exeter it is not the County. Dan Quinn's Schaffers arrived in the early 1700s and just what the religious breakdown was at that time I don't know. 3. John... Thanks for the update, but the comment about the Lutherans of the Reformed Church was not mine...it comes from Daniel Quinn. Lots of good info about Reformed Churches, though.
