In other circumstances, we can usually count on some consistency in spelling, at least a common starting letter, but . . . as you can see, anything but that for our intrepid von Heer Dragoons Hessian trooper Frederick. (It is said that only Hessians could be a member of this special dragoons troop, probably because Congress authorized additional and trustworthy protection for Gen'l Washington, possibly in light of the attempted assasination of the Gen'l by a member of the original anglo-saxon heritage CinC guards). Below are addl sometimes chaotic refs to a number of supposed alternative spellings & sources for this heritage. In looking for a RootsWeb mailing list to which to post this msg, I could determine no specific such. I may have to initiate such a List, hoping some descendant would eventually surface to pursue heritage for Frederick. (As just an idle thought, are any of the other von Heers Dragoons also not so represented?). Thanks to Jane Curci for a big boost (& I see Jane has posted again; more good info to process!).
