    3. Hi Larry, First.. I am forwarding your message to the List.. The creator of the AMREV-HESSIAN list John Merz has retired but, may likely be reading the post anyway. I hope so because your praise for him is well deserved. second to send a message to the list you need to be suscribed to the list.. to do that send an email to: AMREV-HESSIANS-L-request@rootsweb.com PLEASE put only the word subscribe in the body any message any other words will just confuse the computer and cause a delay in your joining.. If you just want this message to go into the archives for others to read there is no need for you to join...as my forwarding it will send it to the archives. First let me thank you for the tremendous service that you are providing. I am descended from Christopher Mantle (I have seen the last name also spelled Mantel, Montle, and Montel), He was a Hessian Soldier that eventually served in the Continental Troops. I have his service record but it only contains two Slips of paper. The first shows that Christopher Mantle enlisted on 16 Sept 1782 in Olivies (This could be Olivias) Company of Hazen's Regiment, Continental Troops. The second shows that He was discharged on 17 June 1783 at the close of the War. Neither of these documents states where he enlisted or where he was discharged. I have "heard" that he was captured at Yorktown but have also "heard" that he defected. Any information, help, or suggestions for finding information on him would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely Larry Smitt e-mail: larrysmitt@msn.com<mailto:larrysmitt@msn.c0m>
