The only way that it will be useful is if there is a family project of straight-line male descendants of a particular Hessian, so that their (male) Y-DNA could be tested and compared to different lines. The (female) mtDNA would not be of any use. I know of living relatives from a straight male line of my ancestor, Daniel Engelcke, but I have not asked any of them if they would participate in such a study. It would not do much to prove anything interesting to us, because I do not know of another line from a different son(s) of the soldier. It would not include me, either, as a participant because I am a not a male straight-line descendant.
