    3. As I said I am researching my ancestor of surname Carrel who may have arrived in North America about the time of the Revolutionary War. I don't care if he was a Hessian mercenary or not. I am looking for anyone of surname Carrel or Correll who came to North America about the time of the Revolutionary War, but not from Britian. I have learned that there were Hessians with that surname who stayed here. If any male descendant of such a Carrel is alive today - I invite him to join the Carroll surname family Y-DNA project now under way. Of course there is no such thing as Hessian "blood" and I never suggested there was. There is however such a thing as a Carrel Y-DNA haplotype, which has nothing to do with any gene or medical condition, Hessian or otherwise. 3. Hi, Well, the subject has been discussed and as a research tool for Hessians it is not viable... I am not saying its not a viable tool for genealogy research of a particular surname. It is. But that needs to be discussed off list. thank you List Manager in this case! Pax et bonum! Nelda L. 3. Generally speaking, the DNA may not be a viable topic for the Hessian list. However, I am a descendant of Gottlieb Westfall. He had a brother Heinrich who also stayed here. Another Westfall researcher is having a problem making the connection to Gottlieb Westfall. Other Westfall researchers seem to have tried to pursuade her that she is connected to another Westfall family, that of Jurian Westfall. This family is of no connection based on my 50 years of research. We have very little on Heinrich Westfall. So down the line a possible Westfall DNA project might be useful for Westfall researchers to perhaps learn if they are connected to the Hessian brothers or not. So I would not totally disregard the usefulness of this as a Hessian topic. Perhaps this is not a line with which you are familiar. John Merz is, as his wife is connected to these 2 Hessians in her line in Germany. Of course, John is retired from the list. Pat Brandon of the list is trying to make her connection to one of these Hessian brothers as her family tradition is that the first Westfall here for her family was a Hessian. I am sure you can see the implications for her. I am not suggesting by any means that DNA become a major topic on the list. It is useful to have it in the archives. What I am suggesting is that it might have its rewards some time in the future in regards to the brothers, Gottlieb and Heinrich Westfall who were Hessians who remained.
