Dear Nelda, LOL - I said - "That's a pity. What about discussion about Hessian DNA?" And the reason I said that Nelda is because I am on a search for my ancestor Philip Carrel's father who may have been a Hessian soldier hired by Britian during the American Revolutionary War, captured or deserted at the second battle of Trenton, and standing down and naturalized in Eastern Pennsylvania. My ancestor Philip Carrel was born in either eastern Pennsylvania or Germany. I am trying to find, out by whatever means available, who his father was. He may have been Johan Conrad Carrel, a Hessian soldier known to have been captured, but not to have died, imprisoned in Bucks County, and to not have returned to Germany. A blacksmith by trade. Probably from the Sachen (Saxony -Leipzig area), as his living male descendant's Y-DNA family project indicates a Slavic or Wendish ancient origin. Although he is proven to haved served in the second War of Independence, 1812-1813, I have no proof that he was a Hessian mercenary as yet. I am simply trying to find more information... Hi Eric, Boy am I glad you weren't curssing me...LOL I see no reason, if there are interested parties on the list, you telling us a little about how DNA would be used to identify a person's Hessian heritage. I know a little about DNA, and using it for one name studies, but most Hessians are from different surname groups. Would you explain a little... Maybe one or two emails on list then if no interest is shown then it would need to be ended. I'm holding back on suggestions about researching in PA, because I believe you probably have already tried that... Anyone else have suggestions? by the way... thanks for the transulation... When I was in Germany in the middle 80's i read and spoke just enough to get by but you had me going there! Nelda LM Pax et bonum! Nelda L.
