Hi Nelda ! I noticed a posting inquiring about Hessian prisoners at Ft. Frederick, Md. I obtained a booklet from the Pennsylvania German Society (Box 397, Birdsboro, PA 19505) for $8.50, inc.S&H, which says about 1000 prisoners were held at the Fort between 1778 and 1781. However the barracks and other buildings in the town of Frederick held about 3000 men at different times from 1780 until the end of the war. More than half of these were Hessians. The 'Hessian Barracks' are still in existance, and is a museum. The booklet also contains a list of 182 former prisoners who settled in the area.
