    2. Fellow Hessian researchers: In a chance phone conversation today, I spoke with a woman whose German ancestors had lived in northern Bronx, NY from the 1830's to the 1950's. She recalled a grave stone in the graveyard of the St. Paul's Church located in Mt. Vernon, NY just north of The Bronx. She forwarded a photo of the stone which indicated it had been erected by the DAR in memory of the Hessian Soldiers killed nearby and buried "in the sand pit" in 1776.
