I would think that it started out as something else then "Americanized" to Double. I've found a lot of Double's in the UK and France, could he have been hired by the Germans? I know it says birth in Prussia and he did go on and name one of his kids Prussey, it just doesn't fit. I don't expect you folks to do all the work, but if you could at least get me started in the right direction I would really appreciate it.
