Hello all, I'm trying to figure out where the Double family are from. I found this: http://genforum.genealogy.com/double/messages/13.html and hardly think that Zephaniah Double is a German name. I would think that it started out as something else then "Americanized" to Double. I've found a lot of Double's in the UK and France, could he have been hired by the Germans? I know it says birth in Prussia and he did go on and name one of his kids Prussey, it just doesn't fit. I don't expect you folks to do all the work, but if you could at least get me started in the right direction I would really appreciate it. David Double

Dave I found a lot of Doubles and Doppels on Ancestry .com and also a couple of Zephainah Doubles. Mainly there are application papers for membership in the US sons of the American Revolution by Hubert Godfrey Webb claiming descendcy from Zephaniah Double born in 1830 Butler Co PA and thru Zephaniah Double born 1880 in Westmoreland Co PA, who was the son of John Double and Jennie Bryan, whose father was Zephania Bryan born in MD 1752 1860 Census shows Elizabeth Double age 57 in PA with a young son Zephenia born in 1859 1900 Census Zeph Double also in PA 1920 Census Zephainah A.
