    1. Re: [AMREV-HESSIANS] Can you point me in the right direction?
    2. Hi Dave, I believe that it's Zephanja in German. As I mentioned in an earlier thread here, from 2006, regarding Zephaniah Double, I have an ancestor who was a revolutionary war soldier from Martha's Vineyard named Zephaniah Chase, but he was on the American side and not of German descent. One of his decendants married a descendant of my Brunswicker, in New York State. Just an amusing coincidence. Bill Smith Descendant of Daniel Engelcke (Angle), von Specht Regiment, Brunswick, later joined Massachusetts 10th Regiment of the Continentals. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dave Double Date: Friday, August 26, 2011 9:22 pm Subject: Re: [AMREV-HESSIANS] Can you point me in the right direction? 3. Hello all, I'm trying to figure out where the Double family are from. I found this: http://genforum.genealogy.com/double/messages/13.html and hardly think that Zephaniah Double is a German name. I would think that it started out as something else then "Americanized" to Double. I've found a lot of Double's in the UK and France, could he have been hired by the Germans? I know it says birth in Prussia and he did go on and name one of his kids Prussey, it just doesn't fit. I don't expect you folks to do all the work, but if you could at least get me started in the right direction I would really appreciate it. David Double
