Yes, please add me to the list that is interested in buying 10 or a dozen of the pins and any other items of interest. Kevin D. Smeltzer
Hi, Does anyone know if any large amounts of troops were recruited in the Schleswig-Holstein or Bavaria areas of Germany? Thanks, Matt ________________________________
If the same vendor is not available, Seoul, South Korea is a very good place to have such items made up. In the military we had unit coins made there all of the time. It was a bit easier when we were there several times a year but we also did orders through the mail without issue. They will repeat a design or work from a drawing. I can probably get a contact. Hi Bob I am very interested in the pin and other family members as well. Has an yone contacted you to take it on? I live in Seoul Korea so I don't think I am the best to take it on as shipping from Seoul would be a little costly. Gregory, The pins are made in China, shipped via a NY State sales office in the US, and can be shipped to Canada by the "US holder," with some difficulty. The logistics would seem impossible for you, or even your friend. I do not know if and how you can ship without customs clearance from Canada to the US. (I sold probably no more than 30 pins to Canada.) I'll let you know if anyone else contacts me and wants to take on the project. Listers, please let me know of any interest. Hello, Keep me on the list of people who want pins. Thanks! Jeanie [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected])
Hello Fellow Hesssian Descendants, This is Bob Fetters, the originator of the Hessian lapel pin, pendant and magnet pieces. Over the 10 years that I purchased and re-sold at cost, I suspect we about saturated the market. It was a lot of fun and I met many very nice people through this "List." If you, Chris Cline, or anyone else on the list is interested in taking up the sales again, please contact me off-list. It requires tieing up a few hundred dollars, and devoting time and dollars to packaging, mailing (keeping up with US and Canada rates), and at best, breaking even. If anyone is interested, please let me know. A 500 piesce order is probably the practical minimum. Robert A. Two brothers, Michael Schmidt (born 1749) and Henrich Schmidt (born 1753; <in his village "Heinrich" was not used, but rather "Henrich"; he would have answered to "Heinrich" nevertheless>) of Bottendorf, kreis Frankenberg, Hessen, Germany, came to America as Hessian soldiers. Michael served in the regiment Huyn. Henrich was drafted into the regiment Ditfurth. Both left their regiments during the war, deserters presumably. Apparently there is a record of Michael in 1777 at Rhode Island (I do not have this document), and apparently Henrich left his regiment in 1782. I believe these dates come from German documents written by the respective commanding officers back to Germany. Michael and Henrich did not die in action. My interest is to discover anything about their lives and descendants in America. I have looked on the AMREV-HESSIANS list of Hessian deserters and find no Michael, and only a few Heinrichs. Most of the Heinrichs are the incorrect regiment, one is uncertain, and one is unknown. Any suggestions?
Nina, The Website and mailing list is only for Germanic soldiers who stayed in the United States of America. the 6 volume set of HETRINA lists all sorts of data but basically the running of a unit but the entries are only for the soldiers who stayed in the States. BUT..... it can give the home town /place conscripted. Which can be helpful. It isn't my group. John Merz created and ran the mailing list until just before his death, I created the website to help attract attention to the mailing list.. After John's death I ran the mailing list until my other comments became to much... now we have a silent mailing list administrator... Thanks for keeping it going. In 1783, at the age of 37, he was "appointed" to the von Ditfurth Regiment as a Private. His name and other information appear in the unit rolls. See: HETRINA Band 2 Item 8695. He was my 4th-great grandfather. He was born and died in Wissenborn, but about 1815, the family moved to Datterode, Eschwege in Hessen. I know a lot about my ancestor from records in Datterode and at the church archives. My quesiton is, can the information from HETRINA be used to find further information about him or would it just be a list of payroll records and that sort of thing. My genealogist in Hessen has retired. I'd be willing to find another and hire him to do the research if it were potentially worthwhile. Also, how do I join your group? Sincerely, Nina L. I am interested in knowing if the English ships that brought the Hessian soldiers to the USA had a list of passengers? I do not know the given name of my Hartman and this might give me a clue. Thanks. Dorcas Beaver
I have traced back through Brethren genealogy lines to Lancaster Co. PA and a John Georg Hun[dt] and the baptism of his child John Hunt January 77, 1776 in First Reformed Church. The record includes the comment "the father and mother are of the Hessians captured at Trenton." Haven't established a link, but the Brethren saga of migration into Ohio and Indiana lists many family names that appeared in the Four Mile Brethren Church of western Ohio and their subsequent settlement in Carroll County, Indiana. Rootsweb: BRETHREN -L- Archives. John Georg Hun[dt] is listed as one of those Ansbach-Bayreuth soldiers who elected to remain in America, but there has seemed to be no other record of him or where he went. In Carroll Co. IN in the 1880 census an Edward Hunt was living next door to the grandson of Joseph Klingelbiehl (Gideon Clingenpeel) which seems serendipitous, since Klingelbiehl was also captured at the battle of Trenton. The Lancaster Co. First Reformed Church originally spoke German in their meetings and ministered to the "German" prisoners of war. Given that many German prisoners were farmed out to work for local businessmen and farmers, and this was the early period of the Revolution when prison camps were just being formed, I have guessed that John Georg may have joined a German Brethren clan that eventually moved west into the Northwest Territory as it opened up. My sources were many and readily available for researchers so I'm not taking time nor space to list them. It would be great satisfaction to me if I could make a link directly with John Georg Hun[dt] as one of my ancestors. Boy, keep us posted on this one. Up until now the only resources we've had is Erich Staedtler's book and Clifford Smith's list of the AB troops. This would help me document my ancestor Matthias Will who was a member of the Bayreuth grenadier company. All the German records that Staedtler published only shows that he "enlisted with the Americans" and not a deserter. He appears in Rockingham County, VA near New Market, VA shortly after the German troops at Frederick were given the opportunity to enlist with US troops in 1782. For a long time our family thought our "hessian" ancester was named Henry Will, the father of John Henry Will of New Market, VA. That appears to be an error though as Matthias had a son named named Henry who most likely was Johan Henrich Will (aka John Henry Will) and named for Matthias' father. John Henry Will was the father of James St. Clair Will, my gg-grandfather who was born in New Market, VA in a house that is still there. > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Date: Sun, 15 Jan 2012 11:51:01 -0500 > Subject: [AMREV-HESSIANS] Ansbach-Bayreuth > > A cousin notified me of the following announcement on the Hessian Barracks, Frederick, Maryland Facebook site: > > http://www.facebook.com/HessianBarracks1777?sk=wall > > “The Hessian Barracks mantains a complete roster of the 714 Ansbach-Bayreuth troops who stayed in North America after the Revolution. If you are talking last column on the right side of the page, the column is the source code, i.e., the actual source. there is no S#400 that I can find, but there is SR400 "The last number in the call number column indicates the page in the archive source. For information from the rosters, however, the page numbers are not given. The call number 4 h 410 No. 1 in the forward of volume 2 of the HETRINA series is identical to 4 h 412 in the computer printout." That 'explanation' is on page 27 of the forward for volume III; what ever it is trying to say!! -----Original Message----- From: Susan King Sent: Wednesday, January 11, 2012 9:00 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [AMREV-HESSIANS] Nikolaus Fenner Nancy, John Merz's "Guide" - K-7 - Kassel Fuselier Regt. von Knyphausen, in HETRINA III, POW 9/1779-5/1783, S# 400 I'm not sure what S#400 is.anybody know?
