    3. Dear Nelda; It may be a good idea to change the wording of the list's tagline #9 and take out the "Wanted" part :) After all - we found you ! Cheers, John Merz.

    3. Thank you Bill... I would remind you all that the list will need full participationof all of you researchers.. as I do not have the knowledge of the German soldier (Hessian) that John has in his little finger tip... So Please if you think you can help a new researcher speak up... I will be very greatful for the help.. and so will the new researcher... John always has the answer and we depend to much on him, so now to honor him we need to help others as much as we possibly can.. even if its only to remind the person to chech the archives for their soldier, or to tell them where the source books on the research are.... Again Thank you Bill... Nelda LM (list manager) Nelda L. 3. Hello Stacey and List and a huge thanks to Nelda for taking over as Administrator. The love, devotion and dedication of John Merz to the "Hessians", could never be surmounted, but you've taken on a critical mode. Try various entries in accessing the List Archives Stacey; ie., Bedford, as other Hessian soldiers settled there and you might find another soldier with collateral information. 'Jacob Fisher' is interesting to me, as a man by this name settled in Westmoreland Co.,PA (also a location for other known 'Hessian' soldiers). Regards to all, Ron Ferry (seeking Heinrich FORRER, "b.1750") ----- Original Message ----- From: "Stacey Maddox" <stacey.23@insightbb.com> To: <AMREV-HESSIANS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, January 22, 2005 11:45 PM Subject: [HESSIAN] John, Jacob, & Emeritus FISHER <snipped> > The 1880 census for Jonathan said his father was born in "Hesse-Darm". 3. Hi, I am new to the list and looking for information on my ancestors. My 3GGrandfather was John Fisher. According to a biography that was done on his son, "John was born near Hesse-Cassel, Germany, and was one of the Hessian soldiers under the British Government. He was under General Cornwallis and was taken prisoner by General Washington in the Revolutionary War. When he was set free, he located in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, and there twice married, reared a family of fifteen children and spent the remainder of his life." He and his first wife had 12 children. His second wife was Hannah Berriner and they had 3 children, including my 2GGrandfather Jonathan B. Fisher. I do not know the names of his first wife or his other 14 children. The 1880 census for Jonathan said his father was born in "Hesse-Darm". Jonathan's death record lists his father as "Emerdins"???. Another cousin has done some research and has John's brothers as Jacob and Emeritus, who were also soldiers in the War. John, Jacob, and Emeritus supposedly came to America in 1776. Emeritus was supposedly killed Jan. 16, 1777 in Yorktown. John was born abt 1755 in Germany and died sometime between 1815 - 1832 in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Stacey

    3. Hi Stacey, WElcome to the list. First, Thank you for the good discricption of your family you are researching. It should help other members who might be connected. Second, I sugest that you do a search of the archive to see if you ancestor has been discussed on the list. If you can't find him look for the source records that are listed there. http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=amrev-hessians Our tag lines at the bottom of all messages give information about the archives and research data.. 2. Robert A. Fetters
    3. Hessian Descendants, Last year, the final order (of two) of these items was filled, and I hope all persons desiring Hessian Descendant pins or pendants were able to satisfy their needs? I will not be ordering more of either, but still have 73 pendants and 37 lapel pins left---1st come, 1st served and no limits, now. Still priced at cost. Once I have depleted all stocks, I will not return checks, but will destroy them. Send your e-mail address with your order, and I'll let you know should your order not be completed. If you don't remember prices or how to order, or if you just want to see what they look like (pendant and pin the same), e-mail me off list, and I'll send a copy of the original announcement or the picture, whichever you want. Any takers? Sure don't want to get stuck with this many "extras"---110. Bob Fetters

    3. Hi John; Sorry to hear about your misfortunes. Seems 2004 was not a good year for some of us. Surely, as you wrote, there must be enough individuals who are knowledgeable of Hessians and who could get together as a team to run the list. I think everyone knows, or should know, the time and effort that you have put into setting up and running this list, in addition to the QUEBEC-L and the QUEBEC-HESSIANS list. Having replaced you a couple of times on the QUEBEC-L list a few years back, I know the time and effort that goes into administering the lists, answering questions and sparking discussions when things slow down. And not all the messages to the list administrator, unfortunately, are polite so that makes it doubly difficult. But then, I think people in some cases expect too much from you. Perhaps they think you have all the answers, plus the time to look it up if you don't. And perhaps it's because you DO know so much about the Hessians, that the expectations are so high. We all appreciate your commitment, or we should if we don't, and I hope that you find a fitting replacement in short order. Unfortunately, time catches up, but it's hoped that someone else will be willing to carry on in your place. Best regards and thanks for your valuable contribution to this cause. May 2005 turn out to be better than 2004, despite the bad beginning. 3. Dear Mr. Merz, I'm sorry to hear about your problems. I sincerely hope you'll find someone (maybe a team effort) to manage the AMREV-HESSIANS list so you you can enjoy a happy and fulfilling retirement. You put so much efforts in this endeavour it would be a shame for it to be lost in cyberspace. There are enough knowledgeable people on this list to help. A much as I agree with other posters asking subscribers to put a little bit more effort in their search (I can understand the frustration we can feel), we also have to remember that not everybody is as confortable with the Net as some of us are. But, yes, researchers should always search the list's archives before asking a question ! That can't be stressed enough. Thanks for the kind words, Dominique Ritchot Montreal (Quebec) > RootsWeb: AMREV-HESSIANS-L Updated tags for AMREV-HESSIANSHello Hessian > researchers; > > This year did not start very well with me - actually, the last > year did not end too well either. 3. John, It is just too bad that people will not take the time to look in the archives. Why do they think they are there is the first place? So that people do not have to keep repeating the same thing. It seems that too many people do not want to put time and effort into their research. I think the right thing is to tell everyone to read the archives. You have donated so much of your time to this list. Frequently you answer questions you have already answered in previous email. I am sure you are tired and could use a good rest. You have generously sent your materials to libraries. So why not just make an email form that says read the archives. And don't forget that there are those on the list who continue to read and study about the Hessians and can often offer suggestions as well as information. When we get past 75 a lot of us do not have the energy to keep repeating the same thing; or even keep doing those things we did before. Do take care of yourself and may we eventually find more on our cousins the Westfalls. Cousin Peggy
