My line is through George Washington Lorance and wife Palexina Northcutt, their daughter Madora Lorance and husband Gideon Allen, and their son Ephraim Robert Allen and wife Martha Todd, and their daughter Nuffie Mae Allen and husband Henry Preston Abbott ( my parents). My brick wall is Michael before landing at Staten Island on 03 June 1777. Any help in finding information from Germany and my German cousins would be appreciated. I will write more if you wish. Thanks for asking. Robert

    1. Re: [HESSIAN] Unsubscribe - (really a Good-Bye message)
    2. Julie Miller
    3. Hello all! I think I, Julie Miller, may be the one to whom John is referring since I did send in a request to unsubscribe in the aforesaid improper manner. Apologies! I actually have just recently and excitedly discovered that I am descended from Heinrich Linker orginally from Hesse-Cassel (Erksdorf), who was in Regiment Von Ditfurth, he deserted from Charleston and settled in northern Mecklenburg county (NC)...where I live now, though I was born in California. My story is very interesting and amazing...but my problem is that I have such limited time!! I am a mother of two young kids, work full-time outside the home, and am trying to squeeze in time to learn a little more about my ancestry and perhaps write my story. Although I am very computer literate (I actually work as a computer software trainer) I am totally unfamiliar with finding information on a list like this. I admittedly just don't know how to do anything in this "list" service and, unfortunately, don't think that I have enough time to learn! I signed up only about two weeks ago, but have not been able to spend the necessary time to become familiar with how to use this list service. So, with all that being said, I appreciate the unsubscribe instructions and may join again at another date when I have more time to devote! If that makes sense. Incidentally, any of you are welcome to correspond with me at the dotrain4u@yahoo.com address if you would like to swap stories! Many thanks, Julie John Merz <hessian@sympatico.ca> wrote: Being human myself I know that we all are prone to make mistakes - and we should show understanding - no reason to get mad abaout it, but it has to be explained that it is not done with just writing to the list for all to read that you forgot how to go about unsubscribing. Julia Miller asked us yesterday, Lynne Miller is doing it today. This is what you have to do - click on this address AMREV-HESSIANS-L-request@rootsweb.com and write just one word unsubscribe into the text field, nothing else, Then send and this will do the trick. You will get a confirmation by return mail. If you were a Digest subscriber, just changed the -L to -D and that will take care of this. But please, let me say this - Now ladies, I am personally sorry to see you go, I know in the case of Julia, she is a descendant of our Niagara Hessian Johannes SCHNUR, I bet she has been a subscriber for many many years and has found most of her ancestor's history on this mail list. I bet you anything her time with us was very enlightening to her, she could have told us good-bye in a little more personal manner, after all, aren't we all family? So, as a last word from me, the original list owner, and I am sure, our new list mom Nelda will agree with me, when you feel the time has come to leave us and the list, to give us a little 'Good-bye' with some words and your reason. 3. Dear Nelda, I just checked the list archives, and sorry, I noticed that I was the offender, calling you a list mom. Truly didn't know it would offend you, since from my point of view the expression 'Mom' entails the highest and warmest respect one can bestow towards another person. How times have changed! Please accept my apology, and let me assure you, it will not happen again. 3. Dear John, You did not offend me with calling me a list Mom. I just prefer not to be reffered to as such, as I explained. Once started on a list it is hard to get it stopped. That is why I had to write to the list instead of you personally. Now, Hurt feelings/differences of opinions should be discussed off list. I'd have preferred you wrote to me personally and we discussed this. What you wrote to me on the list can cause all the list members to dislike me and not want to be helpful as in helping other people... No, Please do not run back and say anything to anyone about it. That too could cause problems. You can't expect me to do the job if you are going to do it...It is one of the hardest things to let go of the list you created.. Yes I know you unsubbed yourself...That to me just pointed out even more that I hurt your feelings.. for this I am truly sorry, you are one of the people I truly respect!! If you ever feel lonely for the list and miss helping people like you do so well, please come back. The list will not be the same without you... John, I am sending a copy of this to the list so that they can see I appologised to you... Regards Nelda Nelda L. 3. Hi List Memers and John, I agree it is nice to know the reason someone leaves a list... But I am not a List Mom, That to me says your children...LOL and I'm sure you are not. I manage the list by monitoring the messages, Check why email messages from the list are bouncing... try and fix it, assist people joining or unsubscribing... Not by doing it for them but by explaining how, By the way I sent a private message to the person who unsubed...Which is the job of the list manager.... give ideas about research and keep messages on tract... I stop all arguements and remove people from the list who are causing problems... That does not say mother is says manager.... So Please call me Nelda not list Mom... I do not expect you to tell us why you are leaving, although it would be nice, maybe there was a problem that could have been solved..?? If I knew about it...?? Maybe we would just like to say good bye and wish you luck... But as I said I do not expect you to. If you have a problem, Please present it to me The List Manager... off list as I will do for you unless it is something the whole list needs to know about it.... Thank you Nelda List Manager Nelda L. 1. [HESSIAN] Unsubscribe - (really a Good-Bye message)
    2. John Merz
    3. Dear Ed; your address book has nothing to do with the subject of subscribing and/or unsubscribing. The reason for my e-mail to the list in respect to people wanting to unsubscribe for whatever reason was simply this - Yes, follow the right procedure, but I don't mind if you let us know why you are leaving us. ==One big family - remember?== If we lose a long-time member, there is often a sad reason behind it, and members would appreciate to know. Just last month an 'unsub' came through on this list, from a woman we had heard lots about, who had helped many of us. She lived in Germany, near Braunschweig, her name was Catherine Lincoln. Last time I heard of her was in 2001, when visiting Bad Harzburg for a WWII re-union, somebody had left a parcel and some flowers for me and Emmi at the Hotel. It was from Catherine Lincoln. I called her home from Canada and her daughter told me that she was in the hospital. Nothing else. Last month her e-mail address was unsunscribed, no explanations. I remember that I asked the list if anybody heard anything, but there was nothing but silence. Don't you wonder yourself sometimes? 3. Some folks do not understand about posting and subscribing, etc. When I add an e-mail list to my address book, I do this: Put a little 'a' in front of the name I give to the posting e-mail address. Then a little 'b' to the subscribe and unsubscribe e-mail addresses. It keeps all the posting e-mails addresses and subscribe, etc. addresses in order. It works for years for me. Edmund

    2. Cindy Hoffman
    3. I am helping a friend with learning more about his Johann George Elias from the Erbprinz Regiment. I have already looked him up in HETRINA, and "Of Revolutionary Memory". Both sources provide much information, but there is some questions about his actual age and maybe he had a son....... So I wondered if maybe someone else in this group may descend from this fine Hessian. If so, please contact me. George Elias married Catharine Lineweber April 02, 1797 Evangelical Lutheran Church, Middletown, MD. He died June 28, 1799. I know of one child, Eliabeth Elias who married Peter Beachley in 1820, Frederick County, Maryland. Cindy Hoffman smoketownuniv@myactv.net
