    3. Dear Diane and Fred Vickerson: How many old 'Vickerson' headstones can be found on Prince Edward Island? Not one to honour your ancestor? Not one to remember him, the first one of your tribe to settle on that beautiful island, the smallest Province of Canada. The cradle of our Confederation. Nothing there to remember those harde first settlers, the Hessians? Perhaps that could be a project for next summer? Ask Lothar Zimmermann, the German professor at Charlottetown University, for help and assistance. Let's do something! 3. Bill, I just replied to Ed Maul's e-mail, and what I said to him, I could have said to you. I don't know where my own grandmother is buried, but I have a beautiful picture of hers hanging on my wall in honour of her. 3. Dear Ed, we have heard about your Hessian ancestor Nikolaus Schilling ever since this mail list started. It is understandable that you cannot put a marker on a grave which does not exist (anymore), but what about his descendents? No graves to be found of his sons, grandsons, etc.? No picture of you holding a descendant's plaque? These are just some simple questions, can you give me one simple answer - you have a Hessian plaque? If yes, show me a picture of you holding one! 1. Re: [HESSIAN] Re: Trip to Hanau, Germany. in June 2005.
    2. John, I’ve got one of the plaques, and plan to do something with it when I can. To have it attached to the current gravestone would be risk breaking it. Besides, the gravestone already mentions his role in the army at Saratoga, as well as his American army service for three years. The words are only readable by making a rubbing – which is not a good idea. So, in the future, I plan to add an additional memorial with the Hessian plaque, and a plaque for his service with the American side. The DAR has long recognized him as a patriot, and the Sons of the Revolution, which I belong to, has my paperwork for him as well. Enjoy your trip! 3. Hello John, I've been reading your emails about your trip, it should be quite an adventure. I do not have a plaque, but neither do I have a headstone for my Hessian. The cemetery chose to remove all the old headstones.. A shame and a loss. Most of the about 2000 descendants of Johann Jacob Bonstein are scattered all over the United States. I have set up part of my website as a memorial to the Bonstein Hessian, since most of the descendants will never visit the cemetery.. nor could we find the actual plot if they were lucky enough to get there. As I have said before "OUR" Bonstein Hessians are the only documented set of brothers that one went home and one stayed. With the help of Gunther , we have been getting the documentation (Birth/death/marriage records) for his ancestors and siblings from Germany. We have pictures of Grossropperhausen, and just reciently got a picture of the actual home they lived in. Has the SAR set up anyone to help non SAR members wanting research on their Hessian? Is there an email contact? a cost? Just wondering? I hope your trip turns out to be as wonerful as it sounds like it will be. 3. Dear Jane and Bill; Thanks for your concern and also for the adress of the Park Curator of the Saratoga Battle Park. I'll copy this to Mr. Howard Horne, who will look after this I am sure. I myself have nothing here anymore to fall back on, and although I still get many enquiries about Hessian soldiers, all I can do now is forward such enquiries to the mail list, hoping that someone will pick up on it. Mind you, the list seems to be slow at times to respond, and nobody seems to receive the PML service from Rootsweb which is such a fantastic source of information, and as long as I have the time and still get the PML information for free from Rootsweb, I will forward those interesting tidbits, which always will have the PML Search in the subject line. Thanks again Jane, the bright star shining from Florida's Gulf coast. thanks for all your help now and in the past. At your suggestion, I contacted the Ranger at Saratoga National Historic Park, and he has replied with a very nice E mail. He searched for John Oderick Dirlam on all the Brunswick/Hesse-Hanau records, but did not find him. He also searched for spelling variations on the name but nothing plausible came up. He said that it is possible, however, that John Oderick Dirlam was a German soldier serving in the British army directly, and not with one of it's "Hessen" auxiliary units. There were hundreds of these Germans in the British ranks, and records of their names exist. However, because there is no compiled list of their names, nor an index.it's exceedingly difficult to locate an individual. The originals for these records are in London. I am very pleased with the Ranger's response, even if John Oderick Dirlam did not turn up on the Saratoga National Historic Park Brunswick/Hesse-Hanau records list. I will continue my search for John Oderick Dirlam's origins. ############

    3. Hello Hessians; Dana Majernik was wondering if I was working as a monitor for Rootsweb, because I re-posted her message to the AMREV-HESSIANS mail list, and I explained to her how this PML Service works. Actually it is very simple - Rootsweb is honoring their old Donors and Sponsors, before Ancestry times, with giving them the priviledge to give us a copy of every Rootsweb Message appearing on any Rootsweb Mailing List with certain keywords. It is a wonderful system, and has helped me finding leads, and like in the case of Dana, she brought up the name of a Hessian soldier, we haven't heard of. My idea was to put her query over the Hessians list, so we have a record of the name in the archives, as well as a contact person. Where else do you look for Hessian Soldiers? MY QUESTION to our AMREV-HESSIANS subscribers - is there anybody out there who is also a recipient of the PML Service? Has nobody of our present subscribers the priviledge of this wonderful service? Where were you when Rootsweb needed your donations? Too late now - - only we who supported Rootsweb financially years back are the happy receivers of this service. This is why I am able to let you have the benefit of it as well, when the opportunity presents itself. That's why you get those messages, headed in the subject line with: PML Service. Thanks, Rootsweb, Sincerely John Helmut Merz. /////////////////////////////////// ----- Original Message ----- From: "john" <jmerz@cogeco.ca> Sent: Wednesday, May 18, 2005 8:29 PM Subject: [HESSIAN] Re: PML Search: Friedrich SCHLOEG, Hessian? > Forwarded to the AMREV-HESSIANS mail list: > > From: "Dana Majernik" <majerdm@yahoo.com> > Sent: Wednesday, May 18, 2005 6:47 PM > > > Source: COWAN-L@rootsweb.com > > Subject: Seeking Info About The Cowans of Cowans Gap/Cowans Village, PA > > > > I came upon your website in search of my own Cowen/Cowens/Cowan family. A date would be good too. See my adress below. Hope you will help me.
