Facebook groups can definitely be set to private which would allow the administrator to review specific questions from anyone interested prior to granting them access. No Cindy, one can't be too cautious about putting our dates and all out there. I also believe there isn't any true privacy on any of the open world groups. I closed ten yrs ago a yahoogroup that I moderated for that reason. The PA COUNTY groups will serve us well if one is begun for Hessians there I will join. If I understand correctly the Mailing List Amrev-Hessian and other Mailing lists are not open and can't be accessed. At least I can't. The BOARDS open are and they ONLY have an American Revolution one which isn't the same as having one with focus on those who need Research on the Hessians. I am in favor of using the group.io as a new base. To add to last post... for what its worth if its on Ancestry I don't think everyone needs an ancestry account? Correct?... it's accessible to all... if that is the case it might be the easiest to start... All, If I understand this whole thing right... all of the AMREV-HESSIANS old threads will be archived on Roots-Web... as will all other lists... so all the years of discussion and research will still be available to search... what is being discontinued is the list moving forward and a new home... if desired...needs to be found asap so that everyone on this list can be notified where it is...
