    1. Dyer Amidon - Who Were His Parents?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Amidon, Amadon Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1h.2ADIB/166 Message Board Post: More than one Amidon family tree posted on Rootsweb begins with Dyer Amidon, reportedly born in Randolph, Cattaraugus County, New York in 1798. Does anyone have information about his parents? Could Dyer's place of birth be Randolph, Vermont, and could he possibly be a son of Jonathan Amidon and Keturah Holt of that community? I ask this because in 1798 there was no Cattauraugus County or Randolph, New York. Randolph was not created until 1826, and an Edmund Fuller reportedly was the first white settler in that area, in 1820. Also, at the time there is 1800 Census record of other Amidons west of Onondaga County, New York. I also wonder hether "Dyer" may be a shortened version of Jedediah or Obadiah.

My first goal is to validate the genealogical research done to date and then expand upon that to explore Roger's origins. Please contact me if you are interested in participating or just learning more about the process.
