His parents were Philip (1708 Rehoboth, Mass - 1799)and Submit BALLARD. Philip's parents were Philip (26 Jan 1669/70 - 17 March 1746/47) and Ithamar WARFIELD. This Philip was the son of Roger Amadowne, the original immigrant, and Joanna HARWOOD. Therefore, Roger Amadowne would be the third great-grandfather of Noredon and Alidon Amidon. My records are not infallible. I recommend you use the above information as a guide and set out to find the documentation to support it. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: BarbaraShannon Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.amidon/168.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Leonard was my third great-grandfather. My records show that Eugene Curtis Amidon was the son of Leonard's son Rev. John Smith Amidon. John Smith had another son named Charles Fremont Amidon who was a federal judge in North Dakota appointed by President Cleveland. Leonard Amidon had another son named William Farmer Amidon who was killed in the Civil War. William's son, Thompson Smith Amidon was the inventor of Cream of Wheat cereal. Leonard's son George Jacob Amidon was my great-great grandfather. The following is a transcription of the Obituary of Eugene Curtis Amidon. Obituary from Corry Journal July 26, 1924 Illness extending back three years brings death to prominent Corry resident - Veteran employee of Howard Company Eugene Curtis Amidon died this morning about three o'clock at his home on West Congress Street. Mr. Amidon was in his 76th year, had been in ill health for the past three years and more recently his condition had become extremely critical, complication developing from cronic ailment with which he had been afflicted for a long period. Mr. Amidon had been a prominent citizen of Corry for half a century. Born at Clymer, he came to this city when a young man and for nearly fifty years held a position with the J. W. and A. P. Howard Company as superintendent of all construction work. With the exception of the original portion of the big tanning plant, practically all construction by the company at the Corry plant and elsewhere had been under the direction of Mr. Amidon throughout this period. He possessed extraordinary mechanical ability and was depended upon by the Howard interests for the solution of many plant problems throughout his service. Ill health compelled his retirement more than two years ago. Mr. Amidon for many years took a keen interest in city affair, serving several terms on the Board of Education and in city councils. The well known Corry many is survived by his wife, as son, David Amidon of Bloomfield, N.J., two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Ragon of Cleveland, O. and Mrs. DeWitt Jackson of Erie; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Hopkins of this city and Miss Fannie Amidon of Valley City, N.D. and a brother, Judge Charles Amidon of Fargo, N.D. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home. Corry Lodge of Elks will have charge of the services at the grave in Pine Grove Cemetery. Author: BarbaraShannon Surnames: AMIDON Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.amidon/168.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I don't have anything on a Mayflower connection, but can add something regarding the Revolutionary War service of this family. I have several of their Revolutionary War pension files. My records indicate that Joseph responded to the Lexington Alarm from Charlton, but being 50 years old at the outbreak of hostilities, he did not serve again. As you mentioned, his brother Henry (my 5th great-grandfather)did serve. He is on the Lexington Alarm list from Willington, Connecticut as a private. He was commissioned Capt. by Gov. Jonathan Trumbull on March 21, 1777. At least four of Henry's sons also served in the Revolutionary War; Jedediah, Moses, Jonathan and Jacob. The oldest son, Jedediah, like his father, was on the Lexington Alarm from the town of Willington. He served as a Corporal in Capt. Thomas Knowlton's company. Thomas Knowlton was the commander who sent Nathan Hale on his fateful spy mission. Jedediah participated in the the battle of Bunker Hill, where Capt. Knowlton was killed. While engaged in a hand-to-hand fight with the British Jedediah was seen to fall and for a time was missing, it was feared that he was killed. It developed later that he received a slight wound in the foot and his motive in falling was to deceive the enemy, who would think him dead instead of disabled. On 12 June 1777 he was commissioned Captain by Governor Jonathan Trumbull. He was engaged in the battles of Harlem Heights and White Plains. He was allowed pension on his application August 1832 while a resident of Ashford, Connecticut. Moses was also engaged in the battle of Bunker Hill. He was also engaged in the battles of Long Island and White Plains. He was placed on the pension rolls in 1833. He was living in Washington County, New York at the time. Jonathan served in Capt. Jonathan Parker's company from May 1777 to June 1778. In Nov. 1777 they joined General Washington in Pennsylvania. He was in the battle of White Marsh, then spent the winter at Valley Forge. He had 2 additional enlistments after this time. His name appears on the rolls at the Valley Forge Visitors Center. Jonathan reportedly was at the siege of Yorktown and the surrender of Cornwallis. He was living in Orange Co., Vermont at the time he applied for his pension. Jacob, my 4th great-grandfather, served as a private from August 1782 to August 1783. According to his pension application he wasn't engaged in any battles. In 1805 he removed to Onondaga County, New York. I recall that one of the sons served as an aide to his father, Captain Henry, but I cannot locate that documentation at this time. Patience Chaffee (1741-1816). They lived in Ashford, Windham, Connecticut, but eventually moved to Onondaga County, New York. I know that Joseph reportedly responded to the Lexington Alarm with his brother Henry, who later served as Captain in the Conn. 23rd Regiment Militia. However, I do not know what Joseph did after Lexington. My wife is descended from Henry, whose son Jacob also relocated to Onondaga. I have looked at the passenger list but have not found a connection between any of the wives and the Mayflower. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
