    1. Re: The many Cornelius Bogards
    2. David Armstrong
    3. Hi again Gordon, I think that you understand me except that what I said was that there are a number of CORNELIUS Bogards in the area. Some of the bits and pieces could reflect one or two or three men but there is clearly AT LEAST one other besides Gaisbert's son. As far as having all of the children of Jacob and Nelly, I'm not so sure. Both Jacob and Nelly were children of men named Cornelius (Cornelius Bogard and Cornelius Kurkendall respectively) and I would be surprised if they had not named a son Cornelius. As for having a complete list of their children, we can't know that. Based on her age they could have been married as early as 1732 (depending on Nelly's age at her baptism) and that would leave room for a son before Abraham in 1737. Also, keep in mind that baptisms may have been performed immediately and may have been performed at some point later. There could also be mistakes in the church records which were produced by human beings. The name of one of a set of twins could have been accidentally left out (I have NO evidence for this - it is just random thinking). What is known is that Jacob Bogard was in Connolly's militia at Pitytsburgh (his pay was picked up by Benjamin Kurkendall) so we know he was on western waters. I don't know if Jacob had a son Cornelius or not but I do know that there were more than one in the South Branch area in the time of our interest. The Cornelius Bogard land grant was geographically near to where a family named PETERSON lived. No Mary that would fit has turned up in that family but it is an avenue for speculation as I know of no PATTERSON in the area at the right time. Your findings in the Louisianna church record was a major bombshell for us and additionkal information will likely surface eventually that will help us with all of this. In the mean time take a good look at the Bogards in Kentucky. The oldest Cornelius down there may be your man! Rick Brown is the real expert on the Bogards (his mother was a Bogard) and he has ALL of my data and a lot more. We are actively interested in finding more on the Bogards. Our most recent find was proof that the Cornelius in the Revolutionary ARmy was the same as the one who married Sarah and came to the Tygart Valley (son of Gaisbert). That tied up a loose end nicely. We continue to look for bits and pieces to tie off the others, but I am afraid we must all be cautious in thinking that we have all of them placed in the family. We don't, and unfortunately your Cornelius is one of our remaining interesting riddles. Keep in touch!
