    1. [A-REV] Zachariah Closon Revolutionary War Pension Papers
    2. James L. Stokes
    3. Hi All, I typed in the Revolutionary War Pension papers for my Zachariah Closen (Clausen/Closon/Clawson). He served 5 times, four times he was drafted (his characterization) and once he served as a substitute. After serving as a substitute he was given $100.00 Continental money in addition to his soldiers pay. He thought he hit the mother load until he got home and paid $20. for a pound of sugar. He received no discharge papers after serving the five times but managed to find 4 or 5 people who were still alive and also served to vouch for him. They signed documents swearing to his character and that he was commonly thought to have been a soldier in the revolution. The Justice of the Peach (B.F. Hancock, father of Winfield Scott Hancock of Civil War fame) and the judges for the Court of Common Pleas testified to the honesty of those who testified for Zachariah Clawson. I'm going to be uploading these papers to the Montgomery County, Pa. Genweb page, I'm trying to find where he is buried. I'll upload them to this list if there is any interest. It might generate some interesting discussion. Jim
