    3. Hi Ann, An interesting post. Let us know if you find anything further. I wonder what the University of Connecticut means by "elected" in the first line of their reply. Does it mean he was democratically elected or elected by the Crown. It strikes me that he couldn't be both democratically elected and appointed by the Crown, that would be a contridiction in terms.
