I noted the query re where a Rev. War pension might be other than NARA. I found that most of my ancestors in that war were in the local state militas. I wrote to NARA first and was advised my ancestor did not appear in their records, so I should try the state. The state (NJ) had the military record. I paid a small fee (this was back in the early 1980's) and got the military record. How I did find out if the ancestor was in the Rev. War? Thru the DAR's Patriot's List. It gave me his full name, date and place of birth, date and place of death, and his wife's name with maiden name. I nailed him because of her unusual first name. It couldn't be anyone else. Remember, lots of ancestors in the Rev. War never saw military service. They signed a petition, they gave money and aid to the War effort, they were a local constable, etc. , You need to check with the NSDAR re this because their records will indicate what kind of service your ancestor performed. Good luck, Annie
