    3. Hugh -- >>> Morgan first organized what was known as Morgan's Rifle Corps >>> (1777-1778) <<< Morgan was at Cambridge Msss in the summer of 1775, just after Washington arrived. I have his commission dated 22 June 1775 after which he raised a company of 96 men in Virginia and marched to Boston arriving the last week in July. Morgan's company of riflemen went with Arnold on his "March to Quebec" up the Jennebec River in Maine and over the Height of the Land and down the R. Chaudier in the autumn of 1775. Morgan was captured at Quebec, paroled in the summer, but not "exchanged" until the fall of 1776. On 12 Nov 1776 he was Commissioned Colonel of the 11th Virginia Regiment. In the spring of 1777 he was serving in operations in NJ preceeding the British Philadelphia Campaign then in mid-summer, his "Corps of Rangers" was sent by Washington to reinforce Gates who was facing the advance of Burgoyne's army. I find no evidence that Morgan went to Ft Pitt. Bob Brooks
