Regarding all the posts on Daniel Morgan he got involved shooting at some of my people. In 1781 on the South Fork River in Hardy County, now West Virginia, my ancestor Jacob Brake staged a Loyalist uprising. They hoisted up the British flag, and the state sent Daniel Morgan in with militia to break it up. After some skirmishing all was shortly under control. Morgan's presence is evidence to me that this uprising was more than just the "misunderstanding over taxes" that Brake and Co. made it out to be in their petition for clemency. People were being hanged for lesser offenses and I never have beleived that Brake and company would have went to that risk over an American tax and if they did they would not have needed the British flag to do it.
